Title: SIDEKICK "CODE"
Post by: THEGUNDOC on January 10, 2019, 03:41:06 PM
HI,  I HAVE A 1998 SIDEKICK JS 4X4.  THE "CHECK ENGINE" LIGHT CAME ON..I WAS TOLD  "IT'S YOUR SPARK PLUGS or YOUR COIL HAS GONE BAD".  I CHANGED THE PLUGS, BUT THE "LIGHT" IS STILL ON...   ANY THOUGHTS. ?  IT STARTS & RUNS FINE..

THANKS  -  TIM.

Couple of things Tim
I moved this from the ZOR product instruction section to newbie safe zone where you can ask questions.
Using all capital letters like that will make people tell you to stop yelling.

Ok this hurt from laughing so hard.
I think itís a joke but hey who knows.

Engine lights on Efi cars are designed to reveal codes. Codes can be looked up. There are two types of On Board Diagnostics or OBD
There are the obd1 introduced willy nilly by each car mfg with their own scan port design. 1996 required all USA cars to use a uniform port for connecting a scanner and since then these are called obd2.

So what year is your car?
Pre 96 obd1 there is a DTC plug that has ports that can be shorted out to cause the e fine light to blink a code.
Post 95 a cheap tool available everywhere you plug in and it tells you the code and what might be a pending code.

This is a link to tech section in ZORum that explains how to get codes and what they mean.

You having a 98 need to go to autozone and have them plug in the scanner and tell you what the code number is.

Then google the code like this

Search: Suzuki p402 code

Then google will display this
P0402 is an OBD-II generic code that the engine control module (ECM) has detected indicating the engine exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valve is flowing too much recirculated exhaust gases when it is commanded to open the flow of gases into the intake manifold
