Ive hunted hogs with dogs since I was about 15. Ive had my own pack since I was 19 and Im 42 now. Ive caught em literally by the hundreds over the years. Ive been blessed to have some real fine dogs. The best Ive ever had have always been bird/bull crosses. They real gritty, hardly needed a catch dog with 2 or 3 of them on the ground.

My pups are part catahoula, pit, plot, and treeing walker.  They are almost 6 months old and they aint happy if they dont have ahold of a hog.  Anybody know if we can put videos on here?

Not for sure what u mean by open dogs? Im guessing trailin dog.
Im not sure what they are going to do in the wood yet,  been waiting on warm weather
To get here.  Around here the forest service has built alot of pond in the mountions and in the winter the hog move there but then it get hot they come down to the river.  Alot easyer to find in the summer.

Yeah I mean opening or barking on track. Down here you dont want an open dog, but if your huntin mountains I reckon an open dog is wanted.

Yea some peolpe around here hunt open dogs and some dont.
Some guys dont want open dogs cuz they could cause the hog to run and when u do it get bayed ur miles from the truck.
I went with a friend that has some hog dogs a while back,
He hunts a pit and catahoula cross....  Anyways.  I take him to a spot that i had found deer season, when we got there it was warm that night and the hogs had the pond all muddy and mud all over trees.  Its the freshest hog sign i have even found.  Some of the mud was still runnin down the trees.  When he turned the dogs out they ran right past the trees with the mud on them and never slowed down.  They ran bout 30 yards into the woods then turned and come back.
Then he told me they are bay dogs not trail dogs.  They didnt even try to hunt for the hogs.
Does ur dogs ran trail if its fresh?  I hope mine will.

Mine will trail a track thats about 2 hrs old and fresher. They mostly wind the hogs, they aint got a real strong nose as far as trailing.  I hunt into the wind when possible and they are automatic.
