Best ways to quiet soft top
« on: October 19, 2018, 01:30:21 PM »

I know I have an old, ratty top to begin with. It seems functional, with one major drawback: the side windows flap and make a lot of noise.  I had the windjammer setup with a bikini top, but I couldn't really move the seat all the way back and it had cold, cold drafts. The Rampage bikini top isn't very thick, either, and flaps around a lot.

So the question is, what are creative ways to keep those side windows from flapping and making all that noise on the full soft top?

Did you know the stock soft tops had little velcro straps to keep the sides from flapping in and out? They attached about half way up the side rod.

I had no idea. My top bow just is covered in electrical tape for some reason. A strap or Velcro to attach to the top there would do wonders.

The bow is also covered with a thin layer of foam in places.

So I tried something out today that worked really well: I took some foam pool noodles and cut a slit and fit them on the sides of the top bow.

We had 30 mph winds yesterday and there was practically no flapping while driving it on the trail or on the highway!

The wife found them at the dollar store and used them for an experiment in her biology class.
