Wife's mini me aka tink
« on: August 11, 2019, 06:30:24 PM »

A few years ago I bought my wife a Samurai. Wasn't bad, just rusty as hell. It's an earlier 88. She wheeled the hell out of it in our local blow sand dunes. Stock it was a goat.
Well one day she let her daughter drive it to work. Carnage ensued. The front u-joint on the jack shaft let go at 60mph.
Ripped a hole in the trans and the tunnel is ripped on both sides.

I decided since it was down, it's time for up grades. So last weekend I started the tear down. Off came the fenders, the the engine. Finally removed the tub. Left with a roller and that was it.
Used the crane off the service truck. Made light work on a hot day.

Right now sitting in a freshly pained frame is a Rebuilt Trans, my spare race engine, and my 4.19 T-case.

I had planned to do upgrades and replace the rusted out rub anyway. And since the Jack Shaft ripped the tunnel, I figured why not. Gabe me an excuse to pull the trigger. LOL

Well with the grandkids coming over this weekend, I was slowed a bit. But here is where I'm at right now.
Stripped the original harness of all the none essential oe computer stuff. Ran most, got the brake M/C and booster mounted along with steering and dash bar. I have test fit the dash. Need to pull it so Ivan clean and paint it.

Well it's been a productive weekend. The MicroSquirt is 95% wired. Finished the fuel lines, and the heater hoses. Bolted a decent front clip (no rust and minimal dents) after the painted the inner fenderwells. Ran the wires to the headlights. Still have a lot to do.

You are making great progress. I bet it feels good to get the engine bay painted.
