I have been fiddling with gear calculations this morning and not sure I understand how to properly read them. At this point I am doing 55 in 5th gear at about 4000 RPM (also in 4th gear at 3000rpm I am doing about 35mph). I am wondering if that sounds correct?

My set up:
I have an earlier samurai transmission
4.16 gears in transfer case
5.125 in diffs
31" tires

A gearing calculator that I think confirms that this would be normal based on my set up.

Finally getting around to putting my bumper in a box together... that was easy. Should have done that sooner. Just have to take it off, weld it out and paint. I like the simple look.

The best gear tool I've found is http://www.grimmjeeper.com/gears.html.

It has two columns with forms where you can compare side-by-side setups.  I like to enter all stock entries on the left, including 205/70R15 tires, then click "Copy form" to fill in the right.  Then, play with different t-case, differential, and tire size on the right to see how it compares to stock numbers.

howdy yall! Happy to report that I've had my ZUK running now for around 4 weeks. Been working out some kinks related to fuel return as it's been over-fueling the carb some. Making headway though and a big thanks to MY for his help throughout.

I have been so busy with work and rentals I haven't had time to do anything else. We also moved. Kung Flu has not treated my  rental business well. Lots of tenants moved out, some decided not to pay rent, and I was finishing up a house for tenants. Wish things would go back to normal.

Steering question  I have been running a Toyota Celica steering box and a pre 1980's GM power steering pump. I will be installing my third pump this week  about 8000 miles total  on this setup.  It all works well till I go snow wheeling  after that no low RPM  power steering.  any idea's?

Thanks

Do you have a pwr steering cooler? You might be getting to much heat built up there.

How's everybody doing? Good I hope! Been putting a few miles here and there on my motor in prep for the 1st oil change. I'm not street legal yet so getting a little driving in when I can. Really is great to have my ZUK running again after so long. Will post some under-hood pics soon!

I've been having battery problems for a while. I'm going to try a trick because I don't want to buy a new battery if I don't have to.

Howís everybody doing? Man, dog days of summer are definitely upon us!

Next for me is figuring out what top to go with. Either a replacement soft top and top bow as mine is long gone. Alternatively, maybe a rally top as Iíve always wanted a hard top for my ZUK. I think Iíd rather get the one piece but then thereís rumors of stress cracks. My tailgate too has a very slight warp too so not sure whether the top would seal properly on it. Thoughts?

On another note, here are some long overdo under-hood shots of everything installed and done. Iíve replaced motors and transmissions and done a lot of wrenching in my life but renewing my ZUK has hands down been the most rewarding and enjoyable!
