Been doing this a lot lately. It is a 1 time fix using the bigger bolt from the later model Samurai.

Start by removing the tower. BE CAREFUL! This is one of those parts that will bust if you leave 1 bolt tight or tighten 1 bolt first. EVENLY remove the four 8 mm x 1.25 pitch at the four corners of the shift tower. Drill for tapping a 10 mm 1.25 pitch thread.


Slightly counter sink drilled hole


Tap straight


Mill slot in ball for slight clearance (I use a 5/16th end mill)


File off any burrs from  slot edges. Don't forget to install a thong!

Maybe I will finally fix the transmission instead of keep changing out the bolt.
