Fabrication Tips / Looking to confirm a VSS quest...
Last post by Hilgy - Apr 25, 2024, 10:10 AM
Hi Everyone

I have acquired a 1.6l 8v from a 1990 Kick. I have done a little research and think that i have determined that there is no VSS required for this motor as its the last of the vacuum advance TBI's before they started using the VSS.

Can anyone confirm this for me?

Thanks

Hello Everyone. New to the forum but not to Samurai's. I've had my 88.5 for going on 20years now. Its been pretty much bone stock other than the switch to a Hyundai Pony carb about 18 years ago.

I've always floated around the different forums and have been grateful to have gained plenty of knowledge from MY and the other regulars, so thanks to all for that.

I have just recently acquired a free 1.6l 8v from a 1990 Kick and will be rebuilding and hopefully installing it in the Zuk with my boys. We are going to try to do as much of the work ourselves as we can so I'm sure everyone here is going to get sick of all our stupid questions.

Got Questions? / Re: Missing Links vs Shackle R...

Not all shackle reversals have those fangs.  I think the only one that does is the cal-mini kit.  The SR "kit" that I have does not have the fangs, the front spring eye is in about the same location as the stock shackle originally was, the distance from the frame to either the top shackle bolt or the YJ spring eye.  I believe the difference is cal-mini used stock springs where mine uses YJ springs.

I know a downside of the shackle reversal is how low you need to make the hanger to keep everything aligned right. Some of the guys running samurais in king of the hammers are running shackle reversals with SPOA setups. Looks like a lot of fabrication had to go into getting it to work right.

Fabrication Tips / Re: Samurai Drive Train
Last post by nrspence - Apr 23, 2024, 01:36 PM
I am trying to decide on gearing for my samurai build. I will be running 33inch tires. I am going with 4.62 tracker axle gearing. Just can't decide if I should go 6.4 or 4.9 Tcase gearing. I'll be using this Sami mostly as a crawler for wheelin in moab and sand hollow. would
Also like to be able to get it up to 65mph on the highway drives between trails.

Got Questions? / Flat tow 87 Zuke with True neu...
Last post by Bigfootford - Apr 16, 2024, 01:51 PM
First I hope that folks will start using this forum!

I have been flat towing my Z for years.  I did the 4.16 Tcase gears and added true neutral and the Evil Twins.  I put my tranny in 3rd gear, not 2nd. If something were to happen and the Tcase was bumped and put into 2 or 4 wd that would destroy the engine.  Well hopefully.
Now the question.
Does flat towing in true neutral do damage to any gears or the small cage bearing?

Thanks for you tube videos!

Got Questions? / Missing Links vs Shackle Rever...
Last post by mscottzuks - Apr 05, 2024, 10:26 AM
Hi Zuk Friends,

I'm constantly scheming how to make the zuk perform better/ride better but trying to keep it on leaf springs.

I like the simplicity of leaf springs and I also think they are integral to the capabilities of the samurai. I understand anyone with links will probably tell me I'm dumb but the rigidity of the OG zuk will help throw itself over obstacles similar to that of a classic VW rail.

Anyway, I'm currently running Rubicon express 1.5 Yjs SPUA on a Sky's yj kit with Missing links on the front and toy axles.

I am ignorant to the advantages of running a shackle reversal on the front end and would like some feedback from you all... I am planning on stretching this unit in the near future and would like to improve the approach/departure
