Showcase your Suzuki / Re: '87 Toy Hauler Toy
Last post by Av8r3400 - Mar 03, 2024, 05:53 PM
Doing some disassembly to prep for paint.  Pulling off the flairs and lower rocker trim, I did find some rust that needed to be repaired.  I chose to cut out the rot and replace it with some square tubing that will eventually be tied in to the frame as rock-sliders.

Showcase your Suzuki / '87 Toy Hauler Toy
Last post by Av8r3400 - Mar 03, 2024, 05:50 PM
I thought I'd make this thread as a build log showing what I'm doing to my little runabout that I'm building to fit in my toy-hauler camper.

Here is what I'm starting with.  A completely stock '87 rag-top (I did add the wheels and 235/75r15 tires).

It's cheaper for me to do the 16v swap since I got an entire running donor for pretty cheap. If it blows up in the future I'll just rebuild the 1.3. In the mean time I'll just keep looking for cheap 16v engines since the samurai will already be set up for it

Stripped down and some repairs being done.  Found the rockers to be a little rusty behind the molding bracket, so I cut it all out and welded in some rock sliders.

Maybe tie into the frame and a exo-cage later...

Got Questions? / Re: smog compliant carb for Co...

Stock carb rebuilding ugggg!  Correct that there are no true carb rebuilders for the stock Hitachi carb anymore.
Zuki4x4 of the BBS Zuwharrie forum did a wonderful write up for rebuilding the carb.
He and I have dissected the workings of the carb and emissions over the years and have so far succeeded in passing the most stringent Calif Smog testing here in the Sacramento Area.

Here is a great link to a thread done by Zuki4x4 rebuilding his carb.

Before you start turning screws and bending things here is a non-pro video I did to show the adjustments and operation of the Hitachi throttle linkage!
